Physical Education teaching in Scotland is designed to ensure all children and young people have access to a wide range of physical activities and sports which promote lifelong learning. Increasingly, however, Physical Education teachers’ competence to teach certain activities is being compromised by claims that additional coaching qualifications are required to teach some sports. This paper provides assurance that teachers in Scotland are already highly qualified to teach all physical activities and sports offered in the curriculum, therefore, there is no requirement for specialist Physical Education teachers in Scotland to have any additional qualifications.
