Dear members,

Please see below information in response to todays announcement, our plans for what would have been conference 2020 and proposed updates including the addition of more zoom sessions.

N.B – There are several links in this email please do use them.

Course Updates

Today, John Swinney, made an announcement on the exam provision for the session 20-21.  The main headline being the removal of the National 5 exam diet.  It will be expected that teachers are able to provide evidence and to justify marking that will be done ‘in house’.

SATPE understand the workload this will entail for all, ensuring the high quality, accurate and fair representation of all learners.  For that reason we would like to offer members a platform to share ideas and work together in moderation.  I have contacted the SQA to discuss a possible partnership in sessions to support the profession, the understanding standards events the SQA run are informative however limited in availabilility.

SATPE Moderation Community

We have created a Microsoft Team for ‘National Qualifications’ that already boasts hundreds of members.  Please use this code:  https://bit.ly/3iC5FbP  to join the team, use the ‘National 5 Portfolio Moderation’ channel to post answers and work together as a community to help each other.

“Conference 2020” – Video Resources

I would like to take this chance to thank the SATPE volunteers that plan and organise the conference each year Harry Prescott, Elinor Steel and Karen Erskine for their continuous hardwork.  A month to this date (7th November) would have been our next annual conference.  Thankfully, due to the hardwork of the above it will not be completely cancelled with several pre recorded video resources being collated to cover a variety of the previously planned sessions.

The resources will be released the week following the conference date for all members to access.

Live Zoom CPD

Following the release of the pre recorded resources we will launch the first of our new series of live Zoom CPD sessions.  Feedback we have had from members attending some of our previous zoom sessions is the real value in being able to have a question and answer instantly with practictioners.  I would like to ask, with support from the SQA, we start with something similar to an understanding standards asking confident, experienced practicitioners from all over the country to lead a series of ‘breakout’ rooms to assist all members with the ‘internal assessment’ of National 5.

If this is something you would find valuable can you please express a note of interest using the form here:  https://forms.gle/fiJdTPkSGQQrd2pv9

As Always….
