PE is part of Health & Wellbeing on the Curriculum for Excellence, one of the 3 main curricular areas . High quality PE can have a significant impact on a pupil’s physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing.
SATPE sees Primary PE as an integral part of a young person’s Physical Literacy journey; to provide them with the skills, confidence and motivation to participate in lifelong sport and physical activity and help them and find their PurposE.
Make Time for PE Campaign calls for:
✔️A national approach for Primary PE
✔️More specialist PE support in primary schools
✔️More PE CPD opportunities for primary teachers.
SATPE is in dialogue with MSP’s to:
✔️ Raise the issue in Parliament
✔️ Support a manifesto pledge to protect and promote PE time within primary schools
✔️ Champion PE within Health, Education and Sport Cross-Party Groups
Please do what you can to support our campaign, use our hashtags, tag SATPE and spread the word to let everyone know why we need to:
In 2011, the Scottish Government committed to 2 hours of PE for all primary pupils. However this is not being met consistently across schools. Accounts from primary colleagues have informed us of some of the challenges they face in delivering high quality PE and meeting this requirement.
Our Make Time for PE Campaign will highlight the positive impacts that PE has on Wellbeing, Attainment and Sport & Physical Activity, and calls for a national approach to support all teachers to feel confident, informed, and empowered to teach high-quality PE.
